RENEWABLE ENERGIES ATTRACT INVESTMENTS FOR US$ 4600 M IN ARGENTINA

(ICE) - ROMA, 16 NOV -

The Argentine government set out to promote renewable energies with a very specific commitment: that by 2025, 20% of electricity demand will be covered by renewable energies. A few days ago the Danish company Vestas began to assemble state-of-the-art wind turbines to supply the main wind farms in the country. The investment of more than us$ 15 million for the construction of new infrastructure, improvement of existing facilities and incorporation of production tools and equipment.

The factory is responsible for producing the "nacelle" (gondola), the main component of the wind turbine and make the assemblies of the different parts for the final assembly of the devices. The design of the wind turbines allows a production capacity of 4.2 megawatts (MW) of power, through the use of the most advanced technology in the wind industry. The "nacelles" weigh 75 tons, measure 10 meters long and among its main components are the generator, the multiplication box and the transformers.

In Argentina there are 200 electricity generation projects with a total of more than 4600 million dollars of total investment. They are being developed in 21 provinces from renewable sources (wind, solar, biomass, hydroelectric) and 63 correspond to wind energy that will benefit more than 3 million homes and hundreds of industries and businesses. The wind farms will create more than 7,000 jobs during its construction, operation and maintenance.
