MACRI IN VIETNAM, ARGENTINA'S SECOND LARGEST TRADING PARTNER IN ASIA

(ICE) - ROMA, 25 FEB -

President Macri said Vietnam was his country’s fifth largest global trade partner and the second largest in Asia, and expressed his admiration for Vietnam’s dynamism and impressive economic growth. The president also said Vietnam should produce more food and Argentina has experience with advanced technology in this field. Besides agriculture, Macri expressed his hope the two sides could develop their co-operation in health care, information technology, telecommunications, sciences, agriculture machinery, renewable energy, animal and vegetable biotechnology, among others.

Vietnam sees Argentina as its most important partner in Latin America. The Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc said the Vietnamese people appreciate and feel close to the country and people of Argentina, whose football, wines and tango dance are famous all over the world.

They have also signed various agreements to encourage investment, economic-trade co-operation, scientific-technological co-operation, cultural-educational co-operation and collaboration in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Argentina and Vietnam established diplomatic ties on October 25, 1973. Two-way trade increased from us$1.4 billion in 2013 to us$2.9 billion last year — the highest figure between Argentina and any Southeast Asian country. The two sides are working to raise bilateral trade to us$ 5 billion as soon as possible.
